Animal rights organizations in France have initiated a petition drive calling for an end to the sale of puppies at animal shows. The initiative has received a wide response – more than 25 thousand people supported it in just seven days, euro-pulse.ru reports.

According to animal rights activists, the practice of selling puppies at shows is detrimental to their health and well-being. The stressful environment of mass events can lead to serious illnesses in babies.

Another problem is that the atmosphere of shows provokes visitors to make rash decisions about purchasing a pet. People who spontaneously buy a puppy are often not ready for the responsibility of raising and maintaining it. The lack of necessary knowledge about caring for a dog creates discomfort for both the animal and the owners, which often leads to the abandonment of the pet. By banning the sale of puppies at shows, activists hope to eradicate the frivolous approach to acquiring dogs and change the attitude towards them as an ordinary commodity.
