Turkmenistan's Ambassador to the Maldives (concurrently, with residence in New Delhi) Shalar Geldynazarov presented his credentials to President Mohamed Muizzu at a ceremony held at the presidential residence. Geldynazarov became the first ambassador of Turkmenistan accredited to this island republic, according to the website of the Office of the President of the Maldives.

The ceremony was accompanied by a traditional Maldivian procession, the “Haikolhu”, featuring the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) drum and trumpet band.

The President of the Maldives accepted the credentials and officially welcomed Shalar Geldynazarov as Ambassador of Turkmenistan.

Following the ceremony, the parties discussed bilateral cooperation, including expanding collaboration in economic development, investment, and connectivity, and reaffirmed their mutual interest in further developing their relationship for the benefit of both countries.

Diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Maldives were established on September 25, 1992.
