Xiaojun Wang took office as UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan

Turkmenistan's Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov met with Xiaojun Wang, the new UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan, who has assumed her post in Ashgabat. This was reported by the country's Foreign Ministry press service.

The head of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry congratulated Xiaojun Wang on her appointment and wished her success in strengthening cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the current state and prospects of Turkmenistan's interaction with the UN system, noting the high level of partnership and the importance of joint work in priority areas.

Particular attention was paid to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for 2026-2030, the preparation of Turkmenistan's Voluntary National Review on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as well as the activities of the Turkmenistan-UN Strategic Advisory Council.

The parties expressed interest in developing new joint initiatives that meet Turkmenistan's national priorities and global sustainable development objectives. The importance of promoting Turkmenistan's international initiatives within the UN and implementing the Awaza Political Declaration and the Awaza Action Programme for 2024-2034 was also emphasized.

Following the meeting, the parties expressed confidence in the further consistent development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United Nations.
