Ashgabat native Vitaly Kafanov has joined the CSKA coaching staff

Ashgabat-born goalkeeping coach and former Turkmenistan national team goalkeeper Vitaly Kafanov has joined the coaching staff of the CSKA football club. Kirill Breido, the club's communications director, told RIA Novosti.

On Monday, the Army Men announced the appointment of 39-year-old Dmitry Igdisamov as head coach. The agreement is for two years, with an option for a further two years. Igdisamov served as interim head coach following the dismissal of Fabio Celestini.

"Dmitry Kramarenko and Igor Aksyonov will remain on the staff, and Petru Lăzărăscu, the physical training coach, will join, as will Denis Korostichenko, who was Dmitry Igdisamov's assistant in the youth team, Roman Adamov, Murat Iskakov, who was on Vladimir Fedotov's staff, and Vitaly Vitalyevich Kafanov," Breido said.

Kafanov is the goalkeeping coach for the Russian national team. From 2019 to 2025, he was on Valeri Karpin's staff at Rostov. Previously, he worked for Kristall Smolensk, Rubin Kazan, with whom he won two Russian championships, and the Kazakhstan national team. Kafanov spent most of his playing career with Kolkhozchi Ashgabat and also played for Sokol Saratov, Uralmash Sverdlovsk, and Kairat Kazakhstan.
