Kazakhstani tennis player beats world number one at tournament in Germany

Kazakhstani tennis player Alexander Bublik sensationally defeated the world's number one tennis player, Italian Jannik Sinner, in the second round match of the ATP-500 tournament in Halle, Germany.

The match ended with a score of 3:6, 6:3, 6:4 in favor of the unseeded Kazakhstani. The current tournament champion, Sinner, was seeded number one.

In the quarterfinals, 27-year-old Bublik, who is ranked 45th in the ATP rankings, will face the seventh seed, Czech Tomas Machac.

The Kazakhstani tennis player has four ATP titles. The athlete's best result in the Grand Slam tournaments was reaching the quarterfinals of Roland Garros in 2025.

23-year-old Sinner is the owner of 19 ATP titles. He also has two victories at the Australian Open and one at the US Open. In addition, the Italian won the ATP Finals in 2024 and won the Davis Cup twice as part of the Italian national team (2023, 2024).

The tournament in Halle is held on grass courts with a prize fund of over 2.5 million euros.
