The Embassies of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus in Turkmenistan held a joint screening of the feature film "In August 44" at the Ashgabat cinema, timed to coincide with the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow (June 22) in connection with the 84th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War.

As the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Turkmenistan Ivan Volynkin stated at the opening of the event, the joint screening of the film in the year of the 80th anniversary of the Victory is a tribute to the courage and fortitude of our ancestors. "They were ready to sacrifice everything in order to protect their loved ones, their land. Now, more than ever, it is important for us to preserve the truth about that war, about the price that the united Soviet people paid for the Victory," the diplomat emphasized.

The Ambassador of Belarus Stanislav Chepurnoy pointed out the inadmissibility of attempts to falsify the truth about the Victory and rewrite history. "We, as the heirs of the generation of victors, are simply obliged to protect the historical truth, the memory of this tragedy, the heroism and courage of our grandfathers and great-grandfathers, their self-sacrifice in the name of our future," he noted.

Vladimir Bogomolov shot the feature film by director Mikhail Ptashuk based on the novel of the same name at the Belarusfilm studio.
