Hero of Turkmenistan and Russia, commander of the “Roscosmos” cosmonaut squad Oleg Kononenko, who holds the world record for total time spent in space, expressed his readiness to continue space flights as long as his family does not object, TASS reports.
"I don't see my life in a different context yet. I want to fly. I will fly until my family tells me to stop for various reasons or due to some physical limitations," Kononenko said.
According to the cosmonaut, he does not need additional motivation to continue his professional activity. "This is my favorite job. I am doing what I like and what I have strived for in this life. Therefore, I do not need any additional motivation," he emphasized.
Kononenko broke the world record for total time spent in space on February 4, 2024, while working aboard the International Space Station. On June 5 of that year, he became the first person in history to spend a total of 1000 days in space. Having completed his fifth space expedition, Kononenko set a new world record of 1111 days of total time spent in space.
Kononenko was born on June 21, 1964 in the city of Chardzhou (now Turkmenabad) in the Turkmen SSR. In 1981, he graduated from secondary school No. 15. It was on Turkmen soil that Oleg Kononenko began to dream of cosmonautics as a child.
