Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov congratulated António José Segura on his election as President of Portugal, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reports.

"Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov sent his sincere congratulations to António José Segura on his inauguration as President of the Portuguese Republic," the statement read.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov wished Seguro good health, happiness, and success in his work for the continued progress and prosperity of Portugal.

Seguro, who previously served as Secretary General of the Socialist Party, was elected President of Portugal in the second round of elections on February 8, receiving over 3,5 million votes, or 66,84% of the vote. His opponent was André Ventura.
