American company Samson Sky and Uzbek airline Air Tashkent signed a memorandum of understanding to supply Switchblade flying cars to Uzbekistan. The preliminary agreement is for 300 units, valued at 60 million USD, PR Newswire reports, citing a statement from Samson Sky.
Air Tashkent, Uzbekistan's first private airline, plans to use the Switchblade to train pilots for both private and commercial flights. Samson Sky, in turn, will assist with mechanic training and maintenance. Furthermore, the two parties will collaborate with the Uzbek government to certify the Switchblade for operation on the country's roads and airspace.
The three-wheeled, two-seater Switchblade was first unveiled back in 2009. On the road, the vehicle accelerates to 200 km/h (124 mph), reaching 0-60 in five seconds. In the air, it reaches a top speed of 322 km/h (208 mph), and has a range of 805 kilometers (500 miles) on a single tank. Switching from road to flight mode is accomplished with the press of a single button and takes about three minutes.
