A passenger lost her spinal implant after going through a metal detector at Atlanta airport

A Georgia resident lost her spinal implant after going through security at Atlanta International Airport. According to Paddle Your Own Kanoo, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers forced the woman to pass through a metal detector, despite her requests and official medical advice to avoid such devices.

Exposure to a metal detector caused the failure of a spinal cord stimulation implant. Such devices are typically used to treat chronic pain and neurological disorders.

The incident sparked public outcry and raised questions about security personnel's compliance with established protocols when screening passengers with medical implants. At the time of publication, there was no official comment from the TSA.
