In mid-November, American actor Tom Cruise was awarded an honorary Oscar by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. This is the first such award in the actor's career, according to dtf.ru.
An honorary Oscar is presented outside of the main awards ceremony and recognizes outstanding achievements in cinema that transcend existing nominations.
Upon accepting the award, Cruise delivered a speech in which he discussed his relationship with cinema and its unifying power. According to the actor, cinema allows people to explore different cultures, appreciate diversity, and at the same time recognize the commonality of human experience.
"I don't make films, I live them," Tom Cruise said during the ceremony.
The actor has previously been nominated for four “Oscars” in major categories—for his roles in “Born on the Fourth of July”, “Jerry Maguire”, “Magnolia”, and “Top Gun: Maverick”.
