For the first time in the country's history, Turkmen athletes won medals at the Central Asian Badminton Championships in Tashkent.
Ninety-seven athletes from seven countries—Turkmenistan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Mongolia, and Kazakhstan—participated in the competition. The tournament was held in three age categories: U15, U17, and U23, according to the Badminton Federation of Turkmenistan.
Anastasia Kulikova and Evelina Efremova won Turkmenistan's first historic medal in the U15 girls' doubles. In the round of 16, the Turkmen athletes defeated Kyrgyzstan and defeated Tajikistan in the quarterfinals. Despite losing to Iran in the semifinals, the young athletes won bronze – the country's first ever international badminton medal.

The mixed doubles team of Billal Saryyev and Gulshen Amanova won their second bronze medal in the under-23 category. The Turkmen athletes first defeated the Kyrgyz team, then, after losing to the Kazakh team in the semifinals, won the bronze medal in accordance with the competition regulations.

In parallel to the tournament, talks were held between the heads of badminton federations from various countries on developing cooperation in this sport. The Asian Badminton Federation held an educational and advisory seminar on gender equality. Two coaches from Turkmenistan participated in the seminar.
