During the talks between the parliamentary delegations of Turkmenistan and Turkey, the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey Numan Kurtulmuş proposed that the Mejlis of Turkmenistan become a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-Speaking Countries, TDH reports.
The proposal was made during a working visit of the Turkmen parliamentary delegation to Ankara, headed by the Chairperson of the Mejlis Dunyagozel Gulmanova. During the bilateral meeting, the parties discussed a wide range of issues of inter-parliamentary cooperation.
Particular attention was paid to Turkmenistan's initiative to declare 2025 the International Year of Peace and Trust, which was supported by the UN General Assembly. The Turkmen side expressed gratitude to Turkey for supporting this initiative.
The participants in the talks emphasized that parliamentary dialogue is an important component of deepening interstate cooperation. It was noted that the parliamentary friendship groups created on a bilateral basis effectively facilitate the exchange of experience in legislative activity and the development of parliamentary diplomacy.
At the end of the official part of the talks, a meeting was held with media representatives, where the importance of the accumulated positive experience of cooperation for the further development of equal and mutually beneficial relations between the two countries was emphasized.
As part of the cultural program, the Turkmen delegation visited the historic first building of the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey and its museum, the Ankara Fortress and the ancient district of the city «Hamamönü», and also took part in the flower-laying ceremony at the «Anytkabyr» memorial in honor of the first President of the Republic of Turkey Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.
