Turkmen karateka Davut Nazmyradov won the silver medal in the under-75 kg weight category at the 20th Summer Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan—marking Team Turkmenistan's first medal at the current Games.

The 22-year-old athlete confidently advanced through the tournament quarterfinals, defeating Nazim Nurlanov of Kyrgyzstan 7–2. In the semifinals, Nazmyradov faced Syria’s Fawaz Bani Al-Marjeh; the bout ended in a 0–0 draw in regulation time, but the Turkmen athlete was awarded the victory by the judges (hantei), securing his spot in the final.

In the decisive gold-medal bout, Nazmyradov lost to Iran's Morteza Nemati by a score of 3–4 and won the silver medal.

The XX Summer Asian Games opened in Nagoya on September 19 and will run until October 4. Turkmenistan is represented by a delegation of 57 people, including 34 athletes competing in eight sports: boxing, wrestling, karate, kurash, athletics, swimming, weightlifting, and wushu.
