The second UNICEF Youth Summer School on climate change has concluded in Turkmenistan, bringing together 33 young people from all regions of the country. Within the framework of the program, participants expanded their knowledge and practical skills in combating climate change and drafted a National Youth Statement to contribute to preparations for the 31st Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP31), scheduled for November 9–20.

The summer school was organized within the framework of the Joint Work Plan between the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan and UNICEF for 2026.Through expert sessions, simulation exercises, group work, and field visits—including trips to the Kopetdag State Nature Reserve and the private enterprise "Tudana"—participants examined key climate and environmental issues and developed concrete ideas for implementing climate initiatives at the local community level. This was announced in a UNICEF press release.

The national youth statement for COP31, developed by participants of the School, reflects the climate priorities, concerns, and recommendations of the young people of Turkmenistan.

Subsequently, the project will be discussed with young people across the country; it will then serve as Turkmenistan’s contribution to the global process of drafting a youth statement and be presented to YOUNGO—the official youth constituency of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)—ahead of COP31.

This process will help ensure that the priorities and views of the youth of Turkmenistan are reflected in international discussions on climate change.
