Representatives of the Turkmenistan Border Service took part in the joint command and staff exercise "Commonwealth-2026," which took place on August 18–19 at the Russian FSB Border Service base, with the involvement of the FSB Border Directorate for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region. The event was organized by the Coordination Service of the Council of Commanders of the Border Troops (SKPV) in accordance with the Council's Work Plan for 2026, as reported on the website skpw.ru.

The participants focused on the topic of organizing interaction between departments and agencies in preparation for resolving crisis situations on the external borders of the Commonwealth.

In addition to the Turkmen side, border agencies from Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan participated in the exercise. The event was also attended by the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center, the CSTO Secretariat and Joint Staff, the Executive Committee of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorism Structure, and regional structures of the Armed Forces, the Russian National Guard, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

The work was organized in two stages. During the first, delegations, including representatives from Turkmenistan, practiced coordinating the actions of the involved units according to the approved scenario.

The main events unfolded at the second stage - at the training ground of the Leningrad Military District. The opening ceremony began with the laying of flowers at the bust of border guard Andrei Korobitsyn, who died in 1927 while defending the border; members of the Turkmen delegation also took part in this part. Then the guests toured an exhibition of equipment, weapons and technical equipment for border protection.

The training session demonstrated high levels of coherence and preparedness among the participating units, including representatives from Turkmenistan, to address the challenges of ensuring the security of the Commonwealth's external borders.
