Citizens of Turkmenistan rank second among foreign students studying at higher education institutions in Uzbekistan. There are 4884 Turkmen students studying in the country, which is the second highest number after India (13 060) among students from more than 50 countries, kun.uz writes.

A total of 24 647 foreign students are studying at universities in Uzbekistan. Besides Turkmenistan, the top three also include Pakistan (1165 students) and Kazakhstan (1129 students).

Medicine remains the most popular program among international students, including those from Turkmenistan, with 16 476 students studying in this field, accounting for approximately 67 percent of the total number of international students.

The largest number of foreign students are accepted by Tashkent State Medical University (4155 people), Samarkand State Medical University (4153), National Research University TIIAME (2886), Bukhara State Medical Institute (2178) and the National University of Uzbekistan (1917).

The top ten universities by number of foreign students also included the Fergana Medical Institute of Public Health, Andijan State Medical Institute, Urgench State Medical Institute, Termez branch of Tashkent Medical University, and Tashkent State University of Economics.
