UN General Assembly Resolution 80/295, "Year of International Law 2028," has been officially published in all six official languages of the United Nations. The document, initiated by Turkmenistan, is posted under agenda item 14, "Culture of Peace," and its text is available on the UN website. This was reported by the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the UN.

The publication of the resolution in all official languages completes the process of its formalization after adoption by the General Assembly and ensures that the document is widely disseminated among the member states of the organization, the report notes.

The resolution proclaims 2028 the Year of International Law. The preamble to the document emphasizes the central role of international law and the UN Charter in maintaining peace, security, and friendly relations among states, as well as the importance of education, capacity-building, and technical assistance in this area—particularly for developing countries, least developed countries, landlocked countries, and small island states. The contribution to the popularization of international law made by the United Nations Programme of Assistance in the Teaching and Study of International Law, the relevant Seminar, the UN Audiovisual Library, and the specialized publications of the Office of Legal Affairs is particularly noted.

The General Assembly called on Member States, UN system entities and other stakeholders to mark the Year of International Law through educational initiatives, capacity-building and public awareness-raising activities. In a separate paragraph, the Assembly welcomed Turkmenistan’s intention to host the Global Forum on International Law in December 2028.

The document also calls on states to strengthen respect for international law and the UN Charter, including the purposes and principles enshrined therein, and recommends continuing to support existing UN initiatives in this area through voluntary contributions – which, according to the resolution, should also cover all costs associated with the thematic year. The Assembly also advocated for broad participation in the Year's events, including the involvement of women and youth, and called for greater use of digital platforms, educational technologies and multilingual resources to improve access to international law.

The UN Secretary-General is tasked with bringing the resolution to the attention of all Member States, UN system organizations, other international and regional entities, as well as civil society, the private sector and academia.
