Tesla has unveiled the first unit of its Cybercab robotaxi, featuring integrated Starlink satellite connectivity. The company released photos of the vehicle showing a panel on the rear of the body but did not disclose its specific purpose.

As Electrek notes, the Cybercab is already equipped with a 5G module and does not require a constant internet connection for autonomous driving, as the necessary computations are performed by the vehicle's onboard system. At the same time, the robotaxis are designed primarily for operation in major cities, where mobile connectivity issues typically do not arise.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk linked the introduction of the feature to the anticipated surge in traffic driven by the use of AI agents. According to him, Starlink is the "only system" capable of providing the necessary increase in bandwidth for artificial intelligence. Musk did not explain how this objective relates to Tesla vehicles.

The Verge, for its part, points to another possible reason for integrating the Cybercab with Starlink: the publication suggests this could become a source of recurring revenue for SpaceX and an additional argument in favor of a potential merger of Musk’s two companies.

In June 2026, Electrek revealed the technical specifications of the Cybercab: a 219-hp electric motor and a range of approximately 673 km. The vehicle has passed energy efficiency certification and is approved for use on US roads, yet it has not yet received regulatory approval for driverless operation.
