Oguljahan Atabayeva made a number of proposals to support breastfeeding in Turkmenistan

Oguljahan Atabayeva, Vice President for Medical Affairs at the Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Charitable Foundation for Assistance to Children in Need of Care, made several proposals for the effectiveness of this work at a forum in Ashgabat dedicated to strengthening systems to support exclusive breastfeeding.

In particular, she proposed organizing peer-to-peer consultations with the involvement of local mothers.

O. Atabayeva noted that highly qualified nurses or lactation specialists could provide training for them.

This approach is already being applied to a certain extent in practice. However, it can be implemented systemically across the country, said Oguljahan Atabayeva, noting that this will require effort. In this context, she expressed confidence that this work can be fully implemented.

The Foundation's vice president also proposed launching a more extensive information campaign with active media participation. She emphasized the need to disseminate information about the special importance of breastfeeding within families and communities, as well as the importance of encouraging local businesses to create favorable conditions for breastfeeding mothers.

"This requires strong will and dedication. Let's work together for the well-being of children, which begins with mother's milk!" urged O. Atabayeva.

The Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Turkmenistan, Xiaojun Grace Wang, thanked Oguljahan Atabayeva for her meaningful speech and emphasized the importance of the humanitarian activities carried out by the Foundation, TDH reports.
