The President of Turkmenistan held talks with the President of Azerbaijan in Baku

Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, who is on a state visit to the Azerbaijani capital, held talks with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at the “Zagulba” Palace. Following the meeting, a package of bilateral documents was signed, according to the online version of the Turkmenistan newspaper.

Following the official welcoming ceremony, Turkmen-Azerbaijani talks took place in both narrow and expanded formats. The conversation took place in an atmosphere of openness, mutual understanding, and trust, characteristic of both peoples.

During the talks, the two heads of state discussed the further comprehensive development of traditional Turkmen-Azerbaijani relations, the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation, as well as key regional and international issues of mutual interest.

Particular attention was paid to enhancing political and diplomatic cooperation, including within international and regional structures, expanding dialogue on sustainable development issues, and effectively utilizing the potential of the parties in the areas of energy, transport, and the environment.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed satisfaction with the results achieved in trade and economic relations between the two countries and emphasized the need to increase mutual trade turnover, as well as intensify the work of the Turkmen-Azerbaijani intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation. The head of state also put forward proposals for developing cooperation in the areas of transport, energy, agriculture and water management, culture, science and education, sports, and healthcare.

Following the expanded negotiations, a ceremony to hand over the oil tanker “Dostluk” (Friendship) took place via video link, after which a package of bilateral documents was signed.
