The President of Turkmenistan began a state visit to Azerbaijan

On June 22, Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov arrived in Azerbaijan on a state visit. The Turkmen leader was escorted by officials at Ashgabat International Airport.

As the electronic newspaper “Turkmenistan” reports, the presidential plane landed at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport in Baku, decorated with the national flags of the two countries. At the airport, the President of Turkmenistan was met by official representatives of Azerbaijan and members of the Turkmen delegation. A guard of honor was formed in honor of the distinguished guest.

Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan maintain diplomatic relations, developing cooperation in the political, trade, economic, cultural, scientific, and educational spheres. The legal basis for interstate relations is formed by 124 bilateral documents. A total of 16 official and working visits have taken place at the highest level. The countries also regularly interact within the framework of multilateral formats—Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Türkiye, Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan—and consultative meetings of the heads of state of Central Asia and Azerbaijan.

In the area of trade and economic cooperation, the parties are consistently increasing their foreign trade turnover. Cooperation encompasses energy, transport and logistics, communications, agriculture, manufacturing, textiles, and food processing. Cultural and humanitarian cooperation is also actively developing: joint events are held in the fields of culture, art, science, education and sports.

The current visit is expected to contribute to the further development of bilateral relations between the two countries.
