Australia's smallest town is up for sale

Cooladdi, a town in eastern Australia officially recognized as the country's smallest town, is up for sale. It's priced at 400 000 Australian dollars (approximately 270 000 USD), according to vedomosti.ru.

The town is located more than 800 km west of Brisbane. The town has a population of just two people. Within the framework of the deal, the buyer will receive a four-bedroom roadside complex, a motel, a general store, a pub, and a four-star restaurant. The town has its own postcode.

The current owners, Carol Yarrow and Jo Cornell, purchased the Foxtrap Road House complex in 2023 with a three-year plan to revitalize the town. That plan is now coming to an end: Yarrow plans to retire, and Cornell plans to move. The new owner will assume sole control of the post office, store, restaurant, motel, and pub. According to realtor Becky Jesman of Charleville Real Estate, the community is suitable for young companies, families with children, or older couples seeking a unique lifestyle.

In the past, Cooladdi was a busy railway junction with a population of up to 270 people, its own school, butcher's shop and police station. Decline began in 1917 with the extension of the railway line to Quilpie, and the town finally became deserted in 1967 with the cessation of passenger service.

Despite its remoteness, Cooladdi still attracts travelers. The nearest large town, Charleville, with a population of about 3000, is a 55-minute drive away.
