Turkmen freestyle wrestler Alp Arslan Begenjov has reached the final of the Asian U23 Championships in the 86 kg weight class. The competition is taking place in Da Nang, Vietnam. In the decisive bout for the Asian Championship title, Begenjov will face Kazakhstan's Abylaikhan Uzembayev.
The championship covers two age categories – U23 and U17 – and runs from May 23 to 31. Currently, medals are being contested for athletes under 23, while the tournament for boys under 17 starts on May 28. Medals are being contested in three disciplines: men's freestyle wrestling, men's Greco-Roman wrestling, and women's freestyle wrestling.
Besides Begenjov, other Turkmen athletes are also vying for awards.
Dovletgeldy Myradov (up to 92 kg) is currently in a semi-final bout with Kyrgyz wrestler Ulukbek Soorombekov.
Sultan Sanjar Begenjov (up to 79 kg) and Azatberdy Ashirgulyev (up to 61 kg) will compete for bronze medals against Vietnam's Van Tu Nguyen and Filipino athlete Hayden Ancheta, respectively.
Watan Annaorazov (up to 74 kg) can fight for bronze if he wins the repechage match against Vietnamese Kong Dat Truong.
