Minsk and Karaganda will receive the status of Youth Capital of the CIS

On May 22, a meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Independent States was held in Ashgabat. Turkmenistan was represented at the meeting by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Hojamyrat Geldimyradov. Also attending the event were Prime Minister of Belarus Alexander Turchin, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Adylbek Kasymaliev, Prime Minister of Russia Mikhail Mishustin, Prime Minister of Tajikistan and current Chairman of the Council of Heads of Government of the CIS Kokhir Rasulzoda, Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov, and CIS Secretary-General Sergei Lebedev.

Following the meeting, the cities that will receive the status of Commonwealth Youth Capital for the next two years were determined. Minsk will be the designated Youth Capital in 2027, and Karaganda, Kazakhstan, will be the designated Youth Capital in 2028.

Both cities are noted for their significant experience in working with youth. They have developed the necessary infrastructure and support international youth cooperation.

The status of CIS Youth Capital is awarded to cities that actively promote youth initiatives and international cooperation in this area. This status typically provides impetus for the expansion of cultural, educational, and social programs for young people, both locally and internationally.
