Construction of The Crystal, a horizontal skyscraper 250 meters above ground, has been completed in the Chinese city of Chongqing. The 300-meter-long structure connects four towers and has earned the title of the tallest horizontal skyscraper in the world, according to Oddity Central.
The complex was built at the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing Rivers. The 1,1 billion USD project was developed by CapitaLand. Approximately 3000 glass panels and over 5,000 aluminum elements were used in its construction. The structure's steel frame weighs 12 thousand tons—the same as the Eiffel Tower.
The structure was divided into seven segments: some were assembled on the ground and raised to the design height using hydraulic equipment, while the rest were installed directly between the towers.
In addition to serving as a connecting bridge, The Crystal includes restaurants, bars, exhibition spaces, a private club, and rooftop gardens. The Exploration Deck, an observation deck covering approximately 1 500 square meters, features a partially glass floor. The skyscraper also features two 50-meter infinity pools overlooking the city.
