Turkmenistan and Spain have identified four priority areas for bilateral cooperation within the European Union: transport and logistics, energy, critical raw materials, and the climate agenda. This was reported by the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Brussels following a meeting between Ambassador Sapar Palvanov and Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Spain to the EU Marcos Alonso.
The parties agreed on these areas as areas for joint efforts that would equally serve the strategic interests of the EU and Turkmenistan’s course towards economic diversification.
During the talks, the parties also discussed mechanisms for implementing the Concept of Strategic Cooperation between the EU and Central Asia, adopted last year. Particular attention was paid to improving the legal and contractual framework between Brussels and Ashgabat as a means of translating the agreements reached into concrete projects.
Palvanov proposed creating a regular discussion platform in Brussels for dialogue between ambassadors of EU member states and diplomatic representatives of Central Asian countries. Spain supported the proposal.
Turkmenistan consistently places high importance on cooperation with Spain as an active participant in European policy towards Central Asia, the report notes.
