Turkmenistan, an attractive destination for tourists

The distinctive national traditions of the people and the unique architectural beauty of the cities generate enormous interest in Turkmenistan among international travelers. All this contributes to the increased international appeal of the country's tourism sector and strengthens its position in the global tourism market, reports the State News Agency of Turkmenistan.

Located at the heart of the Great Silk Road, Turkmenistan is one of the ancient cradles of world civilization. Currently, the country boasts hundreds of historical and cultural sites listed on the state register, many of which are archaeological sites. Thus, Gonurdepe, Garadepe, Namazga-depe, Altyn-depe, Jeitun and Anau, Old Nisa, Ancient Merv, Kunyaurgench, Ancient Dehistan, Ancient Serakhs, Abiverd, Geoktepe fortress are outstanding architectural structures of past eras and represent magnificent open-air museums.

All of them have been declared state historical and cultural reserves. The unique monuments of Ancient Merv, Kunya-Urgench, and Nisa, as sites of global significance, have been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Private domestic tourism companies organizing tours of these historical sites strive to make every moment of travelers' stay in Turkmenistan unforgettable.

Turkmenistan is also rich in unique natural landmarks. The picturesque Kopetdag Mountains, the flora and fauna of the Karakum Desert, the shores of the Amu Darya, Koytendag, the subtropical regions of southwestern Turkmenistan, and the Turkmen coast of the Caspian Sea are all highly attractive for ecotourism.

Most foreign guests visiting the country visit the city of Arkadag, which has become a symbol of the creative power of the modern era.

Along with tourist routes to historical sites and modern architectural landmarks, the country has enormous potential for organizing seaside recreation.

The Avaza National Tourist Zone, created on Turkmenistan's ecologically clean Caspian Sea coast, has become a unique destination that has won universal acclaim. In a relatively short period of time, numerous comfortable hotels, resorts, and cottage complexes have been built here.

The International Tourism Exhibition and Conference "Turkmentravel – 2026" is currently taking place in Ashgabat. The forum offers an opportunity to explore the unique tourist attractions of Turkmenistan and its regions, gain new information on the development of the tourism and hotel sectors, the organization of various types of recreation, and advertising and local history work.
