Flowers were laid at Gagarin's bust in Ashgabat in honor of the 65th anniversary of his space flight

A flower-laying ceremony at the bust of Yuri Gagarin took place at the Russian House in Ashgabat on the eve of Cosmonautics Day. Participants learned about Gagarin's life and were reminded of the great scientists who made the first human spaceflight possible.

"Let me congratulate you on the upcoming holiday – Cosmonautics Day. This year we celebrate the 65th anniversary of Gagarin's legendary launch, an event of global significance. Fifteen years ago, the UN General Assembly declared April 12 the International Day of Human Space Flight. This decision is a tribute to the courage and bravery of the pioneers of near-Earth space. "Thanks to the selfless contributions of cosmonauts, scientists, and engineers, the development of global science was given a colossal boost," said Russian Ambassador to Turkmenistan Ivan Volynkin before the ceremony.
