A photo contest “Amu Darya: a look through the lens” has been announced in Turkmenistan, timed to coincide with Amu Darya River Day.
The competition is organized by the regional project "Water Resources Management in Central Asia Taking into Account Climate Impact". In Turkmenistan, the project is being implemented by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) together with the State Committee for Water Management of Turkmenistan.
The competition aims to draw attention to the beauty and ecological significance of the Amu Darya, encourage careful treatment of the country's natural heritage through creative photography, and demonstrate the important role of the river in the development and well-being of the region.
All interested persons over 18 years of age living in Turkmenistan are invited to participate in the competition. Photos are accepted in the following nominations:
- "Landscape of the Amu Darya" - photographs that capture the natural beauty of the river, its banks, surroundings and landscape at different times of the year.
- "Flora and Fauna of the Amu Darya" - photographs dedicated to the flora and fauna of the Amu Darya basin and coastal areas.
- "Man and the Amu Darya" - photographs dedicated to the interaction of man with the river: work, rest, traditions and everyday life.
Each participant can provide up to 4 photos in JPEG format with a resolution of at least 300 DPI. Minor editing of photos is allowed (cropping, color correction, brightness and contrast correction), but collages, adding or removing objects are prohibited. Each photo must include the first, last and first names of the author, contact information and a brief description of the photo.
To participate in the contest, photographs must be sent electronically to amudaryariver2025@gmail.com. Subject: "Photo contest - [Last name, First name]". The names of the photo files must be as follows: Last name_First name_Work.jpg (for example: Amanov_Aman_Landscape.jpg).
Photos will be accepted until August 20. The winners will be awarded in the first half of September.
The winners will be awarded with diplomas and prizes. The best photographs will be presented at the exhibition and may be used in the media of the regional project "Water Resources Management in Central Asia Taking into Account Climate Impact", as well as at the final events dedicated to the Day of Amu Darya with the author's name indicated.
