More than 4,6 thousand citizens of 50 countries of the world used the humanitarian corridor through the territory of Turkmenistan to leave Iran. This was announced by the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov at a government meeting, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reports.
“Currently, 4640 people have passed through this corridor, including citizens of more than 50 countries in Asia, the Near and Middle East, Europe, Africa and the American continent,” the head of the foreign policy department said.
According to him, this demonstrates Turkmenistan's commitment to the principles of permanent neutrality and fulfillment of international obligations in the humanitarian sphere.
To ensure transit, comprehensive work was carried out, including the round-the-clock operation of all checkpoints on the Turkmen-Iranian border and servicing of foreign aircraft at the Ashgabat International Airport.
Turkmenistan is a participant in 54 international organizations and programs with humanitarian focus. Since 1994, the country has implemented 333 national and regional projects in various fields together with the UN.
As Meredov noted, on the instructions of the President of Turkmenistan, meetings were regularly held with the heads of foreign embassies and representatives of international organizations to coordinate humanitarian activities.
