President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov took part in the celebrations marking the opening of the Tejen-Mary section of the Ashgabat-Turkmenabat high-speed highway, reports the State News Agency of Turkmenistan.

Construction work and landscaping of the adjacent territory were carried out by ES Altyn Nesil at the request of the general contractor of the project - OJSC Türkmen Awtoban.

The new highway has 6 lanes. On each side there is an additional emergency lane, ditches and metal barriers to prevent animals and people from entering the roadway.

The road surface is made of durable modern materials - high-quality asphalt concrete, synthetic fabric, mesh and others, which increases the strength of the road and its load-bearing capacity. Along the route there are parking lots, rest areas, shops, cafes, gas stations and other infrastructure for the convenience of drivers and passengers.

A special system controls traffic along the highway, collects data on traffic flow from CCTV cameras and weather stations (humidity, visibility, etc.) and transmits it to the road surveillance service.

Previously, the first section of the highway - Ashgabat - Tejen, 203 kilometers long - was put into operation in October 2021. The next section of 288 kilometers will respectively stretch from Mary to Turkmenabat. The total length of the Ashgabat – Turkmenabat highway will be 600 kilometers.

The highway received international quality certificates confirming the high safety of the route and the use of innovative high technologies in construction.

The Ashgabat-Turkmenabat highway is one of the largest infrastructure projects in Turkmenistan, which will provide road freight flows with access to roads to the Asia-Pacific region and will serve as a high-speed transport artery for fast and cheap transportation of goods over long distances.
