The delegation of Turkmenistan, led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mahri Bashimova, took part in the 57th session of the UN Commission on Population and Development, held on April 29-30 at the UN headquarters in New York. This was reported by the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry.

The event was dedicated to the Program of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development and its contribution to the UN 2030 Agenda.

Within the framework of the session, on April 29, a plenary meeting of the UN General Assembly was held dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD). Bashimova made a report on the national experience of Turkmenistan in achieving the goals of this Action Program.

It was emphasized that, as a member of the UN Commission on Population and Development for three consecutive terms, Turkmenistan is actively involved in the preparatory activities of the ICPD at both the national and regional levels.

Representatives of the Turkmen side informed the participants about the large-scale construction of socially significant facilities throughout the country that meet international standards. This work is being carried out within the framework of the Social and Economic Development Program of Turkmenistan for 2022-2028.

At the initiative of the Turkmen delegation, a side event “Advancing the circumstances of ICPD+30: national experience and ways forward” was organized. Participants, including representatives from UNFPA and UNICEF, discussed the well-being of children in need of care.

Turkmenistan was elected to the UNICEF Executive Board for 2024-2026, which is international recognition of the country’s achievements in the promotion and implementation of children’s rights.
