Three representatives from Turkmenistan will take part in the World Boxing Championships, which will be held from December 4 to 13 in Dubai, UAE, under the auspices of the International Boxing Association (IBA). This was announced by the Boxing Federation of Turkmenistan.
The national team's roster was determined following a training camp in Uzbekistan. In the lightweight (up to 60 kg) category, the country will be represented by 25-year-old Yhlas Gylychjanov, who has been competing internationally since 2017. In 2018, he competed in the Asian Youth Boxing Championships in Bangkok under the auspices of the Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC).
Twenty-three-year-old Bayramdurdy Nurmuhammedov will take to the ring in the welterweight division (up to 71 kg). Over the past two years, he has won several international tournaments in Kazakhstan, Belarus, and other countries. In 2023, he won a bronze medal at the XIX Summer Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.
In the super heavyweight category (over 92 kg), 24-year-old Dovlet Yslamov, who competed in the international tournament in memory of Sagadat Nurmagambetov in Kazakhstan this year, will compete.
The total prize fund for the World Championships will be 8,32 million USD, distributed among the 104 best boxers in the world. Gold medalists will receive 300 thousand USD each, silver medalists 150 thousand USD each, and bronze medalists 75 thousand USD each. Fifth-place quarterfinalists will receive 10 thousand USD each.
