Former professional boxing world champion Gennady Golovkin of Kazakhstan has become the head of the international sports organization World Boxing. The organization's press service announced this, according to championat.com.
The elections took place on November 23 at a congress in Rome. Golovkin will serve as president for three years.
"I am deeply honored to be elected as the new President of World Boxing. Starting today, athletes will be at the forefront of every decision. On the road to the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, we will restore confidence in Olympic boxing," Golovkin said after his election.
World Boxing is the international organization dedicated to the development of Olympic boxing.
