Emma Hemming, the wife of Hollywood actor Bruce Willis, announced in an interview with The WP Times the family's decision to donate the actor's brain for scientific research after his death. Three years ago, Willis was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, an incurable brain disorder.
According to Hemming, the family understands their time constraints and strives to resolve organizational issues in advance so that during difficult times they can focus on loved ones rather than formalities.
The actor's wife noted the importance of planning in such situations, emphasizing the need to discuss such matters openly.
Hemming explained that research into neurodegenerative diseases relies heavily on postmortem brain imaging, particularly for rare forms of dementia. She described this decision as emotionally challenging, but scientifically necessary for a deeper understanding of frontotemporal dementia.
In 2022, Willis' family announced his retirement from acting due to aphasia, a speech impediment. In 2023, he was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, one of the symptoms of which is aphasia.
