Tajikistan celebrates National Flag Day on November 24. The republic's flag was officially adopted on this date in 1992 at the XVI session of the Supreme Council of Tajikistan in Khujand, MIR24 reports.
The national flag of Tajikistan consists of three horizontal stripes. The red stripe symbolizes the sun, victory, and triumph. The white stripe represents the moral purity of the Tajik people and the country's natural beauty—93% of the country's territory is covered in snow-capped mountains. The green stripe reflects the spiritual essence of Islam and the bounty of nature.
The flag's center features a crown, representing the Tajik people. Above the crown are seven stars, representing the seven historical and cultural regions of modern Tajikistan.
In his congratulatory speech on the occasion of the holiday, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon noted that the national flag calls for creation and improvement, hard work, self-awareness and self-knowledge, as well as the protection of the achievements of independence.
