Russian mixed martial artist Arman Tsarukyan won the main event of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in Doha, defeating New Zealander Dan Hooker.
The lightweight bout ended four minutes into the second round when Tsarukyan secured a choke.
In the evening's co-main event, Irishman Ian Garry defeated former welterweight champion Belal Muhammad, an American of Palestinian descent, by decision. Heavyweight Shamil Gaziyev, competing for Bahrain, suffered a stoppage loss to Dominican fighter Waldo Cortes-Acosta.
Tsarukyan, 29, has a 23-3 record in mixed martial arts. He was scheduled to fight Islam Makhachev for the lightweight title in January of this year, but withdrew due to injury. He is currently ranked 14th in the UFC pound-for-pound rankings.
The 35-year-old Hooker has fought 37 times in mixed martial arts, with a record of 24 wins and 13 losses. The New Zealander is ranked sixth in the organization's lightweight rankings.
