American aircraft manufacturer Boeing is in the final stages of negotiations with China on a major deal to sell up to 500 aircraft, Bloomberg reports with reference to informed sources.
According to the agency, the parties are close to reaching an agreement, but continue to discuss the details of the deal, including specific aircraft models, their quantity and delivery dates. Negotiations on this contract have been ongoing for several years.
The successful completion of the deal depends largely on the ability of the United States and China to resolve existing trade tensions between the two countries. Chinese officials have already begun consultations with local airlines to determine their needs for Boeing aircraft.
Sources also say a similarly sized deal is being negotiated with European manufacturer Airbus, but there has been no official announcement yet.
Boeing's last major contract with China was signed in November 2017 during a visit by then-US President Donald Trump. That deal involved the delivery of 300 planes worth a total of 37 billion USD.
