The winners scored goals from Julián Alvarez (49th minute) and Lautaro Martinez (88th minute). Argentine captain Lionel Messi assisted Martinez on the second goal.
This is Messi's 35th Copa America match, a tournament record.
The next group A matches will be held on June 26: Argentina will play Chile and Canada will face Peru.
The America's Cup will run until July 15. The tournament includes 16 teams divided into four groups. The top two teams from each group will advance to the playoffs. The current champion is the Argentina national team.
