The status of “The most energy efficient school in the city of Mary” was awarded to secondary school № 28 in the administrative center of Mary velayat. Its award was based on the opinion of experts of the “Sustainable Cities” project of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan, the activities of which are carried out in the country with the assistance of UNDP.
As reported in the “Neutral Turkmenistan” newspaper, the event was preceded by a competitive selection, which was held in two stages, and all 36 operating secondary schools in the city took part in it.
Schools were given the opportunity to carry out preparatory work among students. At the first stage, the evaluation commission selected six secondary educational institutions. Based on the results of a detailed analysis of indicators, school № 28 turned out to be the best. Economical lamps are used here, premises and communications are protected from heat leaks, students show diligence in the careful use of electricity and water, have deep knowledge of the environmental friendliness of the urban environment, and are committed to caring for the environment.
The award ceremony was accompanied by an environmental lecture, sports competitions, where the winners received memorable gifts from the organizers, as well as a landscaping campaign in the school grounds.
The indicators of the remaining participants in the final round of the competition can be called almost equivalent, close, with a small “gap”, so they were awarded certificates of an active participant in the competition. The event was part of a series of Sustainable Energy Days events, co-organized by the Ministry of Energy and the velayat education department.
Other events of the “energy week” included an international conference and lectures for students, teachers and specialists of the State Energy Institute of Turkmenistan (SEIT, Mary) and its Research and Production Center “Renewable Energy Sources”.
A competition was also held for students and young scientists. The strongest received the appropriate certificates. Creative competitions were held among Mary schoolchildren for the best drawing on energy efficiency, the development of renewable energy, and the rational use of natural and energy resources.
