A round table to discuss further steps to strengthen the system of child care and family protection in Turkmenistan was held by UNICEF in cooperation with the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan.

Among the participants of the round table were representatives of law enforcement agencies, social sphere, finance, the State Committee on Statistics, as well as local authorities of Ashgabat represented by guardianship and guardianship authorities and commissions for minors.

The best practices of other countries in the field of reforming childcare systems were presented to the participants of the event. In this context, the need to expand the staff of social work specialists was noted, reports the UNICEF press service.

The Government of Turkmenistan and UNICEF are working together to strengthen the child and family protection system in Turkmenistan, which is rooted in Turkmen national traditions and is in line with the Country Programming Document for 2021-2025.

UNICEF commended the efforts of the State Statistics Committee and line ministries to regularly report to the Transformative Monitoring for Equity (TransMonEE) database, which is another important data source for child rights monitoring in the region.
