Disney is preparing to lay off "thousands" of employees to cut costs by 20% — Bloomberg

The Walt Disney Company has tasked its managers with cutting annual expenses by 20%, according to people familiar with the matter who spoke to Bloomberg. The company is reportedly preparing to lay off "thousands" of employees.

Plans to save costs include both job cuts and reductions in other types of spending. The optimization will affect some departments "more significantly than others," the agency’s sources noted, without providing further details.

According to them, Disney executive Josh D'Amaro intends to reinvest a portion of the cost savings into film and television production, technology, as well as theme parks and the cruise business. Previously, the company had projected double-digit revenue growth for 2026.

Bloomberg notes that in recent years, Disney has already cut costs by “billions of dollars” and eliminated thousands of positions. The layoffs have affected, among others, the ABC television network, the cable network ESPN, the studio Pixar, and other divisions.

In early October 2026, The Wall Street Journal reported that Disney was planning a restructuring of its television division, as well as job cuts within its legal department and global communications division.
