Singer Tachnabat Yomudova from Turkmenistan appeared as a guest on the TV show "Privet, Andrey!" ("Hello, Andrey!"), which airs on the Russia-1 channel. The episode was dedicated to the 65th birthday of singer and composer Viktor Korolyov.
The invitation to Moscow came as a surprise to the performer. The organizers prepared all the necessary documents in a short amount of time, and Tachnabat made her first appearance in a television studio in the Russian capital.
In Ashgabat, Tachnabat is known for performing songs from Indian films. She has no formal musical training; she taught herself the pronunciation and singing style in Hindi. The singer has had an interest in Bollywood music since childhood.
Tachnabat inherited her creative talents from her family. Her mother, Shemshat Hojayeva, is a renowned bagshy (traditional folk singer/musician) and a People’s Artist of Turkmenistan, while her brother plays the oboe in an orchestra. By profession, Tachnabat works as a kindergarten teacher.
In the studio, she performed the song "Mera Joota Hai Japani" from the Indian film "Mr. 420" and also presented the "Kushtdepdi" dance.
Tachnabat, on behalf of her family, presented a dutar—a traditional Turkmen musical instrument—to Viktor Korolyov, who has loved Indian cinema since childhood. The birthday celebrant accepted the gift with gratitude. Furthermore, the guest set up a festive spread in the studio, complete with bread and pastries, and treated the program’s participants to traditional dishes. The show’s host, Andrey Malakhov, was helped into a traditional Turkmen robe, which was then cinched at the waist with a sash; a telpek (traditional fur hat) was also placed on his head. "Now you’re a true jigit!" the singer remarked.
One of the singer’s main dreams is a trip to India. She is currently preparing for a major solo concert in Ashgabat.
