Turkmenistan took part in the first "Central Asia – EU" Strategic Institutions Forum in Brussels

Batyr Niyazliyev, an advisor to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, and Ambassador Sapar Palvanov represented Turkmenistan at the first Forum of Strategic Institutes, titled “Central Asia – European Union: Transforming Cooperation in a Changing World,” which took place at the European External Action Service (EEAS) building in Brussels.

As reported on the website of the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Brussels, the primary objective of the Forum was to strengthen expert dialogue between Central Asia and the European Union, foster mutual understanding, and develop practical proposals for further deepening the strategic partnership established following the first "Central Asia – EU" Summit held in Samarkand in April 2025.

The participants exchanged views on a wide range of issues, including current trends in international security, the development of trade and economic ties, transport and energy connectivity, investment attraction, technology transfer, digitalization, education, and public diplomacy. Particular attention was paid to the development of the Trans-Caspian transport corridor, and the possibilities for implementing joint investment projects within the framework of the European "Global Gateway" initiative were also examined.

The Turkmen side highlighted the importance of moving from defining shared priorities to implementing concrete projects. Particular attention was paid to the prospects for energy cooperation—including the potential for supplying Turkmen natural gas to the European market—as well as to the development of Turkmenistan’s transport and logistics capacity and the International Seaport of Turkmenbashy.

The importance of expanding cooperation between entrepreneurs from Central Asia and the European Union was also noted. In this context, emphasis was placed on Turkmenistan’s initiative to hold a "Central Asia – EU" Economic Forum in 2027, which is intended to foster direct business contacts and promote mutually beneficial projects.

At a thematic session dedicated to public diplomacy and cultural and humanitarian ties, the Turkmen side shared its experience in organizing international cultural events—specifically the First World Championship of Ahal-Teke Horses, held in the Netherlands in September 2026. It was noted that such events not only help promote national cultural heritage but also create additional opportunities for establishing business and humanitarian contacts.

Following the Forum, participants highlighted the importance of maintaining regular interaction between think tanks in Central Asia and the EU, conducting joint research, and developing practical recommendations to further advance cooperation.
