A karateka from Turkmenistan won a bronze medal at an international tournament in Moscow

Davut Nazmyradov, an athlete from Turkmenistan, won a bronze medal at the international tournament "Moscow – Universe of Karate 2026." This was reported by the Karate-do Federation of Turkmenistan, according to the online newspaper "Golden Age."

The competition took place at the Irina Viner Gymnastics Palace. It was organized by the Moscow Department of Sport and the Karate Federation of Russia. The tournament featured 348 athletes from 46 countries, including Olympic medalists, as well as world and continental champions.

The 22-year-old Candidate for Master of Sports from Balkanabat competed in the under-75 kg weight category. In the group stage, Nazmyradov drew 5–5 with Iraq’s Said Brayar, then went on to defeat Russia’s Ivan Sokolov (4–0) and Serbia’s Nikola Kaplarevic (2–0). In the round of 16, the Turkmen athlete suffered a narrow 1–2 loss to Iran’s Morteza Nemati, which sent him into the repechage tournament. There, he secured a victory over Russia’s Dmitry Solomko (3–0) and subsequently defeated Mamayusuf Mukimjonov from Uzbekistan (3–1) in the bout for the bronze medal.

Nazmyradov first made a name for himself in 2022, when he became the champion of Turkmenistan for athletes aged 18–24 and also won medals in the under-21 age category at the Banzai International Cup in Berlin and the World Championships in Pardubice (Czech Republic). In 2024, he won a bronze medal at both the Asian U-21 Championships in Manila and the senior Asian Championships in Hangzhou; he also emerged victorious at the Uzbekistan Open in Urgench and the Central Asian Championships in Samarkand. That autumn, the karateka secured a silver medal at the XX Asian Games in Nagoya—one of only two silver medals won by the Turkmenistan national team at the tournament.

The athlete trains under the guidance of Aydyn Charyev, the head coach of the Turkmenistan national team.

The "Moscow – Universe of Karate" tournament was held for the fifth time. According to the organizers, competitions of this caliber help strengthen international ties and provide both experienced and novice athletes with the opportunity to gain valuable competitive experience in a highly challenging environment.
