OpenAI has doubled the limits for its Pro and Business Premium plans

OpenAI has doubled all limits for subscribers of its $100, $200, and $500-per-month Pro plans, as well as for the Business Premium plan, which costs $125 per user per month. This was announced on X by Thibaud Sottio, Head of Product for Codex and ChatGPT. The update went into effect on October 29, 2026.

In addition, the company will for now maintain higher limits for the AI agent Dots. According to Sottio, its usage is tracked separately from the standard limit.

At the end of September, Sottio reported that OpenAI had changed the way it calculates AI token usage. "If you do the math, the monetary costs for the API will be half as much compared to the old $200 Pro plan," he wrote.

Sottio also expressed the expectation that, over time, it would make more sense for most advanced users to pay for API usage rather than through a subscription. He explained this by noting that OpenAI is working on reducing the number of tokens required to complete a given task.
