Today, October 30, the Turkic World Dialogue Forum began in Ankara. The event is organized by the Directorate of Communications of the Presidency of Türkiye and will span two days. Representatives from a number of Turkic states, including Turkmenistan, are taking part.
Professor Fahrettin Duran, Head of the Communications Directorate of the Presidency of Türkiye, and Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz delivered welcoming remarks at the opening ceremony.
Yilmaz noted that a country’s influence on the international stage is determined not only by its economic might and military potential, but also by its “ability to produce knowledge, disseminate it effectively, and make its voice heard by the world.” According to him, digital communications facilitate access to information; however, disinformation and manipulation can undermine trust between societies. In this regard, he emphasized the importance for the Turkic world to examine common issues from its own perspective and to strengthen the dissemination of reliable information.
The Vice President spoke about media cooperation within the framework of the Organization of Turkic States. This cooperation is structured around regular meetings of ministers responsible for information and media, a Media Coordination Committee, and various working groups. He noted the establishment of the Union of Turkic News Agencies in 2023 and also mentioned an action plan adopted in Baku in 2025.
Yilmaz stated that, in June, guidelines for the use of a common 34-letter Turkic alphabet were adopted in Astana. He described the "Turkic World Vision 2040" document as a long-term framework for cooperation, covering areas ranging from political consultations to economic connectivity, and from science and technology to culture and youth.
According to the program, the first day of the forum includes panel discussions and roundtables. Topics include media and communications in the Turkic world, parliamentary diplomacy, energy, strategic communications, and countering disinformation. The second day will focus on artificial intelligence, the geopolitical role of the Turkic world, and economic cooperation.
