The Prime Minister of Moldova unexpectedly announced his resignation

Moldovan Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu unexpectedly announced his resignation on July 3. He shared the news on social media, "Evropeiska Pravda" reports.

According to Munteanu, he accepted the offer to head the government fully aware of the responsibility involved and with the intention of fostering positive change; however, he decided to step down when he realized he could no longer carry out his duties in accordance with his own principles and convictions.

Munteanu thanked the members of the government for their collaborative work and noted that he intends to continue serving his country, regardless of the position he holds or where he lives.

As the publication notes, the prime minister's resignation is likely linked to a series of scandals that have shaken Moldova in recent days. In particular, it was revealed that the head of the civil aviation safety agency MOLDATSA—appointed to the post by the current administration—held a forged university diploma and pilot's license.

Alexandru Munteanu took charge of the Moldovan government on November 1, 2025. Under the country's legislation, the resignation of the Prime Minister automatically entails the resignation of the entire Cabinet of Ministers.
