National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, as part of an official visit to Azerbaijan, held a meeting with the Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Board Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reports.
As Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted, the history of good neighborliness between the two fraternal peoples goes back many centuries. "We understand each other perfectly not only at the linguistic level. Both peoples have common roots. We have carried the richest historical experience into the modern era," he said.
Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade noted the successful development of cooperation in the political, economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres. A special place in strengthening ties is given to religious figures of the two countries and the Islamic religion, which unites the peoples of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan.
The interlocutors emphasized the importance of Islam in educating the younger generation, instilling a sense of patriotism, love for the Motherland and respect for parents. These concepts form the ideological and moral framework of Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized the declaration of 2025 as the "International Year of Peace and Trust" by the UN General Assembly on the initiative of Turkmenistan. This initiative is designed to promote the establishment of a respectful dialogue between states and peoples, overcoming prejudices and ideological cliches.
The National Leader of the Turkmen people invited Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade to the upcoming International Conference dedicated to the International Year of Peace and Trust in Ashgabat in December 2025. The invitation was accepted with gratitude.
Pashazade noted that Turkmenistan’s foreign policy, based on the status of neutrality, contributes to strengthening peace and stability on a regional and global scale.
At the end of the meeting, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov presented the Sheikh-ul-Islam with a Turkmen don and a prayer rug. Following the talks, a dinner was given in honor of the Turkmen delegation, after which the Mufti of Turkmenistan read a prayer for strengthening friendship between the Turkmen and Azerbaijani peoples.
